A Low Profile Painter from Bali, Ibu Jero Amer Ambari

Ibu Jero Amer Ambari, a pro hand painter from Bali, sell a Unique Balinese Painting for paying her daughter’s school fee.

Ibu Jero Amer Ambari is one of the best Balinese Painter I have ever met.

At the first time meeting, I knew her as a chip seller who always comes to my office in Denpasar to sell her chips. She walks from Batubulan to Denpasar, which need approximately 2 hours walking:

She did it everyday just to sell snacks from door to door. She do it because she really need money to pay tuition fee for her daughter who is still studying in a highschool.

But, one day she came to my office with a beautiful painting on her hand. She said she needs more money to pay the debt for her daughter school. What is interesting is we never knew that she is a good painter.  Well, you can judge, look at ther painting!

She said she prefer to do something and sell it rather than ask for donation. She want to work with her passion: paint something, but don’t know how to promote.

My manager was automatically interested to buy it. He also promote her painting in his Instagram, hoping somebody wants to buy a good painting from her. By the way, if you guys are in Bali and don’t know what to buy for unforgettable and unique souvenir please call her: +62 81 999 508 211

Soliloquy- Kakakmu kok Boleh? Kok Kamu Enggak?

Sekarang… kadang masih ngerasa iri.
Tapi yaudahlah.
Kalo protes malah capek sendiri.

Ulang tahun pun begitu.
Kalau Ingat alhamdulillah, kalau gak Ingat ya sudah.
Mindset Itu sudah terlatih sejak kecil. Makanya sampai sekarang kalau ulang tahun biasa aja.

Kalau aku sih… Udah biasa.
Well.. sempet terharu ketika buka twitter, yang ngucapin cuma twitter, selama bertahun-tahun.

Orang tuaku sibuk ngurusin kakak masuk SMA Negri.

Aku?

Iya belajar sendiri, alias otodidak.

“Masuk SMP mana dek?”
“PGRI tante”
“Kenapa gak ambil Negri aja?”
Aku benci banget mau jelasin panjang lebar. Akhirnya cuma bisa senyum.

Aku juga pernah menang lomba desain presentasi Microsoft PowerPoint waktu kelas 3 SMP di PGRI, and many more.

Soal pacaran pun demikian.

Aku agak kangen dinasehatin mama kayak gini. Cuma beliau yang ngerti kenapa aku berubah. Dan beliau sering minta maaf kalau gak sengaja berlaku gak adil.

Padahal aku gak pernah mengharapkan beliau minta maaf. Akhirnya aku mulai berusaha mengontrol emosi.

Aku masih inget pemain-pemain utamanya.

Contohnya soal “kenapa kok gak masuk SMP Negri” tadi. Toh itu tidak menutupi prestasi seseorang juga.

Sampai sekarang banyak orang yang tanya, kenapa repot-repot kuliah lagi? Well…

Kalaupun nanti bayaranku nggak tinggi ketika jadi pengajar, Aku gak peduli.

By the way, Me and my friend get lost while trying to find where Bukit Surga actually is. But then we met somebody that was really kind and show us the right way to go there. After 10 minutes, we finally found it.

We were a bit surprised, as we were charged approximately between 75.000-120.000 per person. And.. there was a wifi in there.

We were thinking if we brought our laptop, we can actually work in there, as my friends and I are digital marketers and developpers. Could be called as workaholic? But suddenly just realize and don’t wanna think about our job. Because we want a holiday! 😂😂

I have had a good time with my friend by camping in Bukit Asah. We have had a barbecue, told a stories, sung a song before sleeping and saw the beautiful sunrise in there.

Culture – Life in Sade Village, Lombok

Travel to Lombok, visit Sade Village or Desa Sade in lombok for an amazing cultural experience in Lombok

if you are planning a trip to Lombok and wanna learn their culture, I strongly recommend you guys to visit Desa Sade. Desa means Village. And it is a traditional tourist village located in Central Lombok district. This tourist village is managed by local government and community or local tribe that is called as Sasak People.

In this village, there are many things that worth to know, especially for their cultural life. So, here are the unique things to know in Sade Village:

1. Weaving in Sade

Sasak Sade villagers, must learn weaving, especially women. The guide said:

“if you want to get married Sasak People, then you should learn weaving. If you don’t know how to weave, then you are not ready to get married yet.”

It’s funny and unique right? I think it is the good way to conserve their unique culture. By the way, for those who are looking for souvenir, kain tenun might be the best for you to choose. Kain means fabric, and tenun refers the progress of making or weaving. So, kain tenun is an original fabric made by Sasak people using weaving technique. It will cost approximately between Rp 100.000 to Rp 500.000. If you want a cheaper souvenir, you can buy their weaved bracelet which costs Rp 5.000 – Rp 20.000. I bought one for my sister. It is also to appreciate the local people who made it. The bracelet is quiet unique and simple. I like it!

2. Traditional House

The Sade’s houses are made from bamboo, wood and dried grass roof, has a very unique architecture. The floor is made from clay. What is unique from the house is that the floor are all covered by cow dung to prevent the mosquitoes. Even if it’s covered by cow dung, there was no bad smell of the cow dung at all. Wonderful right?

To visit Sade Village, you can take a car or just drive a motorcycle, just like what I was doing with my friends from the Lombok Capital. I was staying in Mataram and I spent approximately 1 hour to reach the village. This place is recommended for you who are craving cultural adventure and unique story about Lombok tribes. I’d really love to visit Lombok again someday!

How about you guys? Have you ever been in Lombok?

Outdoor Act – Biking and Canoeing in Sanur

Here are 2 fun things to do while you visit Sanur Beach Bali

Hi guys!
Just got an idea for today’s blog post which will be about ….. Biking in Sanur area.

Sanur is one of famous beaches in Bali where we can see beautiful sunrise every morning and enjoy “Lumpia Bali” (a traditional snack) at the same time. FYI, there are many versions of Lumpia in every region of Indonesia. The most famous Lumpia in Indonesia is in Semarang.

But actually, Bali also have their own Lumpia, which we can find around Sanur and Renon. But please don’t forget to litter in the proper place after you eat Lumpia. Sometime I still can find Lumpia’s wrap on the beach sand. And it’s not really good at all.
Remember to keep the area for better future. Right? 😊

So.. What we can do in Sanur?

1. CANOEING

In Sanur, we can rent a canoe and float on the sea. It cost IDR 15.000,00. and you’ll be free canoeing for 1 hour.

2. BIKING

Same as renting a canoe, you can rent a bike in Sanur, which also cost IDR 15.000,00/hour. It’s recommended to do in the morning 7 am where you will get morning fresh air.

Biking in Sanur Bali

If you are stayin’ in Sanur, don’t forget to try these fun activities. Get more experience and healthier body at the same time in Sanur! 😘

Tips – How to Travel on A Budget Way

Who don’t like traveling?

I mean everybody need it. Either for escaping from busy life, relaxing, or maybe just a hobby. But if it’s a hobby do they have proper rules to organize their own budget? Think they’ll need extra attention to not run out all the budget right? Cause they must save some money to continue traveling to another region or country.

So the solution is to plan a travel in a budget way. But what are the simplest way to organize a budget travel?

Here are my little tips to help you travel in a budget way:

1. Book Airplane Ticket and Hotel in Advance

I think everybody know about it. It’s a very basic way that I always do when I want to travel outside Bali. Usually, I get cheaper price if I book an airplane ticket, hotel room, or guests house in advance. Well sometimes it depends on the date. If you book an airplane 2 months in advance but for a holiday season, then you’ll get high price, but still a bit cheaper rather than you book it when entering the holiday season.

For example, you book an airplane now, on May, for holiday on July, which will be the month of high season in Bali. The price might look expensive. But it’s better you book on May, or 2 months in advance, cause it will get higher and higher near July. The hotel room price also play the same rules as airplane ticket.

Therefore, if you are planning a holiday right now, don’t forget to always check the updated ticket price.

>> Here if you want to book an airplane!
>> Here if you want to research hotel room available!

2. Travel Off-Peak Season

Thinking about traveling in off-peak is one of the best way to find cheaper ticket and hotel room. First, you need to research more about the destination you want to visit. You should know when is the peak season, then you can choose to travel in there before or after that peak season ended.

3. Traveling with Lot of Friends

Sharing is another option to keep your travel budget. By sharing food or rental with your friends, you must get cheaper price than usual, because you divided your budget. The more you have friends to travel, the more you’ll divide your budget as cheaper as possible.

Culture – Ngejot, A Symbol of Gratitude & Tolerance in Bali

Do you know how muslim in Bali celebrate Eid Al-Fitr with their hindu neighbors? Or how the hindus share their happines to other religions in Bali to celebrate Galungan & Kuningan? Ngejot is a tradition to preserve the good relation between diversity in Bali

Ramadhan will be finished next month. As muslim, I will celebrate Eid Al-Fitr soon in my hometown, Denpasar Bali. Actually there is a tradition in Bali which is valid for all religions.

We call it as “Ngejot”.

This tradition has always been done by local community in Bali to celebrate a big day of all religions, such as Kuningan & Galungan for hindus, Eid Al-Fitr for muslims, and christmast as christians.

Ngejot is a tradition where we share our special food to neighbors while celebrating Galungan or Eid Al-Fitr. For example, we share chicken curry and cookies to the neighbors as these are typical or common menus to celebrate Eid Al-Fitr. And my neighbors, who are mostly hindus, share their traditional snacks, to my family and I, to celebrate Galungan in other day.

The main idea of Ngejot is to share our happiness and gratitude to our neighbors while celebrating our own big day. It’s also useful to maintain friendship and brotherhood between each other, even our beliefs are different.

However, culture is a culture whatever our belief is. Moreover, Ngejot is a heritage tradition, developped from generation to generation. A uniqueness that We must preserve until whenever. I don’t know why people in other regions, I mean outside Bali, are being intolerance nowadays. I hope the tolerance issue in Indonesia could be better as before. I think it is the importance to preserve our culture that were made to keep the balance between the diversity.

I love you 3000 Indonesia, please always be peaceful.
